The Rickover Family Readiness Group this Winter
By Caryn Brissman
It was only five months ago that the USS Hyman G. Rickover (SSN-795) was commissioned in Groton, Connecticut. Since then, our Sailors have been busy ensuring that the boat is in top form. This, however, means that they are away from home for lengthy periods of time. For the Rickover families, the Family Readiness Group (FRG) plays a vital role during these times and the 795 Club is available to support them in all ways.
The FRG hosts events and fundraisers throughout the year to provide social support, engagement, and valuable information about Navy life. It creates a caring, supportive community for Rickover families and actively welcomes new ones.
After the commissioning, the 795 Club founding board worked to provide gift cards that were distributed to Sailors’ children at FRG-hosted holiday events. Many families enjoyed a bowling party in January and a Valentines Day Event, complete with a craft table for the children. Rickover families are celebrating April, which is Month for the Military Child, with a 1K walk for kids. They hosted a speaker to help new Navy families understand the cycle of deployment and another on stress management. As the year progresses, the FRG is planning a Submarine Birthday Ball 5k, brunch, and picnic.
To make all of this happen, the FRG hosts various fundraisers, such as a night at Chipotle and The 795 Club will support and work with the FRG to make sure fundraising needs are met and provide any other needed assistance.
As the year progresses, the 795 Club looks forward to sharing news from our Rickover families and the FRG with our members. It is the dedication of our Sailors’, their families and Club members that create the Rickover community!
