By Mike Pestorius, Captain, USN (Ret.)

I had the usual interview set up with the Kindly Old Gentleman (KOG).  When I was finally called I ran (as directed) to his office and arrived breathless.  He immediately hit me with some questions and then directed me to step across the hall and wait for him in an office there.  The office was a janitor's closet.  I was happy to be there.  After 3-4 hours, I could tell that the building was shutting down.  I slowly opened the door expecting ADM Rickover to be standing there. He wasn't and I walked to the entrance of old Main Navy.  A commander sitting at a desk there said, we've been looking for you.  You're accepted.  I didn't point out that I hadn't applied.
